Have you ever known someone who wanted something so badly that they tried too hard to get it? Meet Charity Hope Valentine, the eternal optimist who never stops looking for love... but always seems to be looking in the wrong places. Despite spending her nights working in the seedy Fandango Ballroom, she dreams of a better life and meeting the man of her dreams. Along comes Oscar, a decent guy who might just be her ticket out. But is it all too good to be true?

With a host of well-known tunes, including ‘If my friends could see me now’, ‘Rhythm of life’ and the classic ‘Big spender’, this fantastic and funny musical is the perfect night out.

UCLU Drama Society in association with UCLU Stage Crew and the Bloomsbury Theatre presents ‘The Gut Girls’ by Sarah Daniels.

London, one hundred years ago: a city divided by extremes of poverty and wealth.  The Gut Girls rule Deptford’s dockyard slaughterhouses - elbow-deep in blood and guts all day, they ignore society’s rigid rules, drinking, swearing and dancing the nights away in the East End’s notorious music halls.  The Duchess of Albany battles without success to civilise the girls through sobriety and Bible readings, but when the slaughterhouse is suddenly closed down, the girls are faced with terrible choices and must compromise everything they value in order to survive.

A black comedy telling the real-life story of the pre-war East End, Sarah Daniels’ ‘The Gut Girls’ rediscovers a London of slums, mansions and music hall glamour.  This vivid and immersive production by UCLU Drama Society runs for three nights only from 21st to 23rd February 2013, so don’t miss out!
