Is there any actual age guidance given on any of the publicity material?

Or is it just a question of getting bums on seats to generate income?

the producers should be making more information available so parents can make an informed decision.

You said yourself in a previous post that "I don't know much about the play, but even from what I've read, it's quite clearly unsuitable for young kids." If you can come to that conclusion, then why can't these parents?

Average parents of Harry-Potter-obsessed children aren't as likely as WoS board members to have read about the show.
It's nice to be better, but it's better to be nice...

It doesn't help that the theatre is refusing to give any guidance about age-restrictions (according to an Observer article yesterday where someone rang the theatre pretending to be the mother of an 8 year old and then the wife of a Puritanical vicar and so on)>

You mean this here??

I don't see that as a refusal to give guidance, they pretty much let people know it's unsuitable for kids and that people shouldn't go just because they like Harry Potter.

i think it's both. parents can only make a decision based on having ALL of the information available to them. the publicity i've seen has been along the lines of 'a boy who has an unusual relationship with horses'.. from what i can gather, he simulates sex with the horses, doesn't he??? that's not a natural assumption i'd make based on the press.

the producers should be making more information available so parents can make an informed decision.

It is certainly unsuitable for children but there is no part of the play or the story where the character has sex (simulated or not) with a horse, the character Alan's obsession comes from close contact with the horses and his love of riding them whilst naked, it's the closeness and feel of the horse and its movement that he desires.
That in itself may still sound rather risque (and it is!) but it is very different to what you were implying.

because the stuff that i've read that's prompted me to think it unsuitable has not come from the press coverage of it that i've seen (ie the 3 page spread in heat magazine!) but from reading reviews on here etc.

and p, consider me corrected - i must have misunderstood what i'd read.

The papers have mislead the public throughout Haz, talk of 'torrid sex scenes' when in fact it couldn't be further from the truth, strong violence and nudity yes but 'torrid sex' absolutely not.
I don't think the producers of the show are any better than the press with the way they have publicised the play, it is an excellent piece of drama and all they can come up with is photos of a semi naked leading man, they deserve better.

Lets hope the parents keep their children away, fortunately many of Dan Radcliffes fans are no longer young children and may enjoy the play in a way they never expected to.

The sex may not be torrid, but there is   a scene of simulated sex involving two completely naked people which isn't that common on stage!
