I think you'll find this is because someone has posted a disgusting pornographic picture on the discussion board and by adding a posting to another thread it bumps that thread up (therefore moving the pornographic one down).

I have to say guys that worked very well in terms of moving it away from the public domain.  We should also get in touch with Whatsonstage when it happens to let them know.  I've just called them this morning and they didn't know about it.

Let's keep the weirdo porno freaks outta here.

I alerted the porn posts as soon as they happened and put a warning on the thread (and suggested we could bump up all the other threads).  I didn't do it myself but I have to say whether it was the original poster or someone else it was the best solution last night (though it did not need to be done to the musicals forum as well as far as I saw - but then I don't do more than glance at that).

Yeah it seems to have been sorted.

If anyone has the phone number for WOS could they either post it or PM it to me as I can't find it anywhere on the site.

That is just awful. Maybe there is a really strong argument for compulsory registration. And I think they need to get some moderators in here quickly. Nobody should have to look at that rubbish.

I've said this before but registration doesn't stop this kind of thing.  People who want to do this just use multiple accounts or register via a proxy server.  And if you're suggesting comp reg so you can IP ban trolls then that causes its own problems with AOL users.   Active mods and disabling the embedded image function (at least when there aren't any mods) might work.  It's a pretty small site (at the moment) so it's wouldn't be difficult for a few mods to keep an eye on things.  The problem at the moment appears to be that there is noone at all looking at the site.  The other sites I'm on are much much bigger than this and they have never had anything like last night in the time I've been posting.

The pornographic picture that was posted on here last night was the most shocking photo I have EVER had the misfortune to see on any forum.  Thank you to Skylight for doing all you could to stop others from looking at this filth.  I have to say I am very wary now of clicking on any topics and I certainly won't be visiting this forum in the evenings.

I would suggest that there should be a curfew on these boards as clearly WOS has become a target.  The BBC radio (and maybe TV as well I'm not sure) boards are closed overnight and it does no harm to their functioning.  Realistically no one is going to police the board 24/7 (unless we get an overseas mod) so closing the board between, for example, 12am and 7am would seem to be the way to ensure against a repeat of last night.
