1) I dont think an overture is necesasry and 2) why are things being tried out on Broadway first now?

Cutting costs due to crew overtime and pre sets

Judging from a Vine post, a front cloth has been put in for the Broadway production also.

Just hash tag #matilda and scroll down to someone called Ally Morgan Uzbay's post. They're on the front row so it isn't a great view of it and it goes fast so you can still get the gist of it.

Are they going to put all of these changes like a new front cloth and Overture into the London production?

apparantly there have been delays in getting people in as preparing the stage has taken too long so they have opened the house late. adding the curtain allows them to prepare while people take their seats. not sure how true that it but what ive heard

They've long been toying with the idea of an overture - more so since they changed the opening from a school to a party (which makes a lot more sense) - and getting rid of the school bell.

When it first opened in London - there was a very gothic opening (chokey chords) but that was soon scrapped...

I had lunch with Chris Nightingale months ago, and an overture was sort of in the works back then.

Shame about the curtain coming in (can anyone provide a link to the mentioned picture/video?) as it's a great visual treat when you see the stage and all the books!

Hi guys has anyone got a recent update of what I can expect from the day ticket queue? I was hoping to get there about 9am tomorrow (2 show day) and hoped that'd be ok as we're not in the school hols or anything but, judging from previous comments, this might be too late! Anyone day ticketed recently?

Guessing as the show is practically sold out for the whole of July, the "peak" season has truly kicked in.  Don't know about day seat times - never done it.  Good luck!
