Hi there,

I've used whatsonstage for quite some time now, and I really like the new layout.   biggrin.gif But what I'm missing at the moment is the search feature, meaning that I can search for eg an artists name. Was really useful as I live outside the UK, and this was a great possibility to keep track of my favourite actresses and actors and their work on stage.

Is there any chance to get that back?  sad.gif

Thanks,

Rikki

Hi Rikki,

You may have already spotted this by now

If you look on the banner at the top of the page where it says Gallery,Blogs, calendar, members, search, help

You can click on this link and search for a particular artist.I've just done a search looking for threads about John Barrowman (cos I noticed there was one) and it worked. It might say no at first but click through to the advanced search and try again and it should work (did for me).

Hope that helps

Thanks for the info. Though that's not quite what I meant. Meant the WOS website itself. You used to be able to enter the name of an artist/play in the search box and in result you'd get all upcoming things. Know what I mean? Like I enter the name Maggie Smith, for example, and then it told me "The Lady from Dubuque" at the Royal Haymarket from... to ... And that's what I'm missing at the moment.  ohmy.gif

I agree with Mistress Quickly, without the ability to search for specific names attached to current and upcoming plays the search function is practically useless for me. Why has this feature been taken away for the new and supposedly improved website? If this doesn't return I won't be bothering to use the new site much if at all, The Stage site might be crap but at least their search function includes names as a search parameter. Can someone working for WOS please let us know if the current limitation is temporary or is going to be a permanent thing, and in that case why.

jenny, if you read the post about the problems that caused wos to go down, you'll see that they're working as hard as they can to get all of the original features reinstalled as soon as they can.
whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should

I saw that, and it there had been no search function available I would of course have reasoned that this was the case and not been bothered. But there is a search function in the listings section, and I doubt that they would first take time to put that in only to go back and again recode it later. Obviously I'm not a programmer but that just doesn't seem like a practical approach for a number of reasons, so I have to assume that the current search function, now that there is one, is in fact what we'll get from now on. If I'm mistaken in this it would be very reassuring to hear WOS say so. Without the ability to properly search this site and fish out the stuff that we're interested in it becomes unusable. I hope that you're right Haz, but I fear that this may well be what we're stuck with. unsure.gif

The search feature that you can see on this page is just for the boards only. It's a common feature on most boards. I'm sure if you are patient the search feature will surface eventually on the actual WOS main site.

No, this is the main site that I'm talking about, not the message boards. There is a search function that can be found under "Listings" but it only allows searching for the show's name, venue, location and date - not the name of any actor or director that you might be interested in.
