Looking at a couple of posts here, and some on DS, are people actually b*tching about us supporting Sam?

She's one of the biggest things to happen to the island and we're just putting all our support behind her hoping she goes far in this competition!

They haven't seriously changed the name of the island have they?  That would be completely bizarre.

Yes. Yes, they have.
I have always hated eggs. I remember back when I was a sperm I tried to head-butt one. It did not end well.

It is all a bit sad really

The Isle of Man has a long and interesting history

Samantha is never going to be anything other than a very minor footnote

So is it now Samx instead of Manx ?

It does seem a little cheap and tacky to wipe out a thousand years of island history to promote a talent show contestant.  It has to be a joke surely.

Hee hee, it's so lame but hilarious.

Look, this article explains it: http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/I39d-Do-Any...eans.4032109.jp

It's quite sweet really, because I'm sure Sam was pretty chuffed by it (I know I would be). At the end of the day, it's just an elaborate publicity stunt by the Minister of Tourism.

So I guess my nationality is now... Smanx? Samanx?

So the island really was renamed and they have changed the logo too.  Maybe it would have been better to wait till she wins before doing it though.

I wonder if Southend are planning on renaming the town after local boy Lee Mead.  Lee-end has a nice ring to it.

I think it's nice that they want to support Sam, but renaming the Island does seem a little extreme.
What happens if she doesn't win and then fades into obscurity?
