Forget being "gracious," Cameron Macintosh was UNPROFESSIONAL. It is Directing 101 to make your cast feel that you really are excited to work with them. He either plans to fire Jodie immediately or (once she watches the show back and sees exactly HOW much he didn't want her to win...beyond actually choosing Jessie), she will be racked with doubt throughout the rehearsal process. He also apparently "bought" Lloyd Webber's "vote" which was outrageous.

If these guys don't believe in the public vote, perhaps they should go back to casting the old-fashioned way. It really is a bit more dignified and the director can choose who he wants. These greedy bastards want it both ways. A hit show AND the deciding vote. I was appalled.

Fortunately, Jodie has been through worse. I think she'll work hard to win his respect--not that he deserves it.

Fair comment, Kerry. But it must just be hard for a professional producer to see the public pick such an average performer. Actually I feel sorry for Jodie, who didn't deserve to be put in this position. To me it's just a shame the public didn't have better taste; there were several girls who would have been better suited to the role.

well done indeed Jodie, and I hope you read these pages and see the real support for you. I have been behind you since day one, and know you will be fantastic and reach every seat in that enormous theatre, something perhaps the others may not have done. Well done again. I've nothing but praise for you. It's unfortunate that these shows bring other emotional elements into play. Anyway the other Nancys will have a good career, some taking on new roles, but it won't be long before most of them are working. Some will do panto some will do shows, but good luck to them all.

I think the master class with Liza Minelli was the most telling - she did not have to tell Jodie anything, she knew what to do instinctively, she told her she had it and was wonderful, she had to direct the other two - she clearly thought Jodie was the best. Jodie stood out head and shoulders and carried that number when they sang it as a trio.

I think John B is correct, Jessie can pull off the occasional stunning performance, but she does not make you believe what she is singing all the time. Jodie does. She is convincing and can command the stage. She is the best all rounder.  I think Jessie will get it, but needs more time, it would have been a catastrophy if she had won because she could not have sustained it, and they could have ruined her, now she has the time to grow and develop her skills, and grow in confidence. She  is a some one to look for in a couple of years time.

Jodie will be a great hit in the west end  - I can also see her playing Mama Morton in Chicago and Madam Thenardier in Les Miserables, I think she has a long west end career ahead of her. I  am definitely going to be getting tickets to see her, and Rowan Atkinson in Oliver.

Congratulations Jodie. A well deserved win.

Two roles, both often played by larger ladies, one of which is controlled by the same man who has made it very clear he doesn't even want to cast her in Oliver, and she's got a long West End career ahead of her?  I suspect her West End career will fizzle out post-Oliver.

I think Jodie deserves congratulations for winning - she was clearly the most suitable for the role out of the three finalists - but to me it's a victory of personality over talent (not saying she isn't talented at all!).  Connie was terrifyingly desperate and Lee almost totally braindead but they both gave fantastic performances week after week; Jodie never really pulled out all the stops for me unfortunately, although I was very impressed by her Send In The Clowns.  Although they were all "professionals", I would have liked to have seen Fran, Sarah or Rachel make it through to the end (despite their tuning problems, repetitive acting and over-the-topness respectively) and/or winning it, but honestly none of the finalists really impressed me massively and I'm certainly glad Jodie beat Jessie and Sam.

The cynic in me would suggest that Jodie's played a very clever game to make herself popular from the beginning - I find the whole engagement/boyfriend/whatever scenario very implausible, to be honest - but even with her very TV friendly presentation she wouldn't have won if she couldn't sing and act, so I guess it's a moot point.

It's interesting to see how Cameron's office appear to be managing this whole affair, Cameron's barely concealed disgust for Jodie notwithstanding.  Surrounding her with stunt casting (who knows who's lined up for the other principals?), only confirming four performances a week... I suspect they're trying to avoid the fate of Sound of Music and the potential fate of Joseph where once the original star leaves ticket sales plummet.  Downplay the effect of the TV show as much as possible and maybe people will keep coming to see it after Jodie leaves?

Well done to Jodie - absolutely the right choice IMO. She will make a fantastic Nancy!

I think she'll be bouyed by JB's comment about hoping to guest star opposite her on the west end stage in the future. That was quite an endorsement, and it will go a long way to helping her self-belief.

As for ALW and CM, if they wanted to be in control of casting then they shouldn't have agreed to a TV search for Nancy! I'm sure they'll change their tunes when the money starts rolling in to their bank balances.

I've got two tickets for Oliver going spare now. As ALW said last night, safe, not spectacular. I'm not paying top price ticket for that.

I'm super thrilled for jodie and my money was on her from day one. I still don't have tickets atm but I wont them more than ever now. While I, along with everyone else ofcoruse knew Lee would win last year there is clearly some doubt over who people think should have won this and I wouldnt be interested in getting a ticket anymore if Jessie would have won, and only maybe possibly Sam (but for different reasons wink.gif ).

Congratulations Jodie! I honestly believe the best decision was made!

I must admit though i did have concerns that Jessie would iwn -considering that both ALW and CM said "In 6 months with some training she could be fantastic"- it concered me - i think they would have been in trouble had the casting decision been made of the premis of someone who *might* be ok in months - too big a gamble - they needed someone who could go on and dnancy right now and not buckle under the pressure so yes Jodie my be the traditional nancy that the public wanted and yes she may have helped herself by being mad as a box of frogs - but that is no bad ting - i think nancy is safe in Jodes hands and i for one cannot wait to go and see her and show her my support!

Congratualations again Jodie! You deserve the star on your dressing room door!

I loved JB and DVO's reaction to Jodie winning.  Much better than the response she got from Cam Mac.

I don't know if there's any truth in it but I read Cam Mac wanted Rachel to win and had a big bust-up with ALW when he chose Sam over Rachel.
