This is a monthly show hosted by Dan Clark (hence the name) in the downstairs bar (hence Lowdown) at the Albany pub in Great Portland Street.  Dan Clark is an entertaining host and his own material is funny but the stars this evening were undoubtedly Rich Fulcher and Paul Foot.  Rich Fulcher, with new character ageing rock groupie 'Eleanor the tour whore', probably just won on the laughter scale; his confidence and energy make him so appear so effortlessly funny that you can just relax and go with him whatever he's doing.  It's not often I laugh at a man dressed in women's clothes revealing his underwear but...well you really had to be there.  Foot managed to talk for 25 minutes on the subject of cake in a routine that veered from the observational (remarks about casual racism and homophobia at the neighbourhood watch garden party tore up the room) to the surreal (if you lived on a cake you wouldn't have to grow food because you could just bend down and eat the cake) combined with elements of physical humour.

There was one terrible act ('resident poet' Tim Key - memorise the name and steer well clear) and the downside of a small venue is that there really isn't anywhere to look to disguise the fact that one isn't laughing, but the brilliant stuff more than made up for it.  Rich Fulcher working the room has got to be one of the funniest sights on the planet.  My stomach is still hurting.  laugh.gif
