Bit surprised that Singin In The Rain has had nominations as I thought the show had to open (as it Press Night) before 2012, but I suppose it kind of did with its pre-run in Chichester.

Another thing is I still dont understand why The Wizard Of Oz is a "revival" because it's not the same as the RSC version being reproduced, it's Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and Jeremy Sams etc. starting from scratch and making it completely new with new book and songs, but still glad it's got a nomination for something! Was hoping Hannah Waddingham or Robert Jones for the set was going to get one!

The award ceremony not until April. Blimey, we are well into another year of theatre by now. Why the delay? Ski holidays or what?

The website olivierawards.com explains:

First published:  20 Jul 2011

London theatre’s most prestigious awards ceremony, the Olivier Awards with MasterCard, will be staged at the Royal Opera House in 2012.

The glamorous ceremony is also moving later in the year and will be staged on Sunday 15 April, with nominations announced on 15 March.

The alteration to dates means that the cut off for show eligibility will not be 31 December, as in recent years, but 16 February 2012.

Still misleading when they call the Awards the year following most of the shows. I suppose we are used to it by now.

No live network television coverage, so perhaps the radio programme will be broadcast with vision via the red button like last year?

I am pretty sure it's on the red button as last year.  Just hoping they bring in a decent director who appreciates that we want to see performances AND acceptance speeches and not listen to hours of endless analysis like last year!

OK, decision time, to go to Covent Garden or to watch via red button?  Thing confusing me is that website implies (though I'm not entirely sure!) that some shows will be performing in Covent Garden (mentions Billy Elliott, Jersey Boys, Wicked & Les Mis) although I'm not sure if this is before or during the awards, which it says will be streamed live. Other shows seem to be lined up for the ceremony.  It may well depend on the weather that day!
