According to the original schedule, this was the first preview.

Ah forgot. You know what I'd be interested to hear whether they improve on these gestures, and that these improvements would quicken the pace of the production. But since it is all timed I am not sure.

Mark Ravenhill seems to be keeping count of the walkouts on twitter -

"only 55" last night

Press night is tomorrow, be interesting to see the reaction.

Am I right in saying this only has 17 performances? And all in August?

Think so - 17 at the RSC then however many there are in London.

Yes, the Swan Theatre run in Stratford-upon-Avon ends on Sat 18 August, followed by three weeks at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith from Fri 24 Aug to Sat 08 Sep. http://www.riverside...pl?l=1338980353

O ok, thanks. I didn't register the Hammersmith run. Bit odd.

Not odd really! It's one of a series of RSC-commissioned productions from foreign companies for their World Shakespeare Festival. The Iraqi Romeo and Juliet in Baghdad also opened at the Swan and later played at Riverside. A Tunisian Macbeth adaptation, also commissioned by the RSC for the Festival, played Riverside but not Stratford. The Wooster Group has played Riverside several times over the years so I think it's the ideal London venue for this show.

Ah, so in fact I did notice it and the dreaded commissioned aspect stopped me booking. I am getting a bit confused with the RSC lately.

Just back from press night.

More walk-outs tonight.

It was only my professional duty as a reviewer that stopped me from being one of their number.

Truly shockingly bad work.
