The word of mouth for the tour of Dirty Dancing has been almost as bad as for Viva forever.
Sad news if that is what is coming in. Good news in that it saves me money.

Except DD still sells out regardless. They did attempt to rectify it by recasting the lead.  A friend who saw it sad it was noticably different to the London show, even changing some aspects of it which she couldnt understand why.

I only saw the London show and whilst it (and the audience) wasnt my kind of idea of a good night out, I thought the production was a good standard with some clever set/staging ideas and the cast were all great. If you wanted the movie on stage, you got it.

And what people tend to forget is that opening a show creates more employment than keeping one going because there are many jobs that are only needed while getting the show up and running in the first place. If all shows were long-runners and never closed it would be good news for the people involved in the day to day running of the theatre but everyone else would be permanently out of work.

I agree, a show closing will allow a new show come in creating new jobs, I'm not a fan of having too many long runners as it means new shows where it be a play or a musical cant come in and the West End needs new product to refresh itself.

As much as I did actually enjoy Viva Forever, 9 to 5 really does deserve a West End run, it's a much better show and a lot of fun. Maybe a few months for 9 to 5 followed by Newsies... Would be a good plan.

9 to 5?  Really?  The biggest reaction from the audience the night I saw it was when Dolly appeared on a video screen.  It really doesn't deserve a West End run - not without a new book, a much better set and a reworked score.

It failed on Broadway - and I can clearly see why.

There has to be something better than that out there.

Does failure on broadway mean a bad show? Merrily We Roll Along?! Taboo? Rocky Horror?
