New musical, Loserville, will be previewing at the West Yorkshire Playhouse starting next week and I'm going to try to get to it.
It's written by Elliot Davies, who has most recently been working on Soho Cinders, and James Bourne, who is most famous as a member of the band Busted, but who has been working as a song-writer too.
It's set in 1970s America, and loosely based (inspired I think is the term) by an album made by one of Bourne's bands, Son of Dork, which is far more pop/rock than classic musical theatre, but the musical director is Martin Lowe who has just won the Tony for orchestration on "Once", so there is considerable theatrical pedigree in there.
I'm not sure what the commercial climate is for a musical of this nature. Even in this era of Glee, it isn't part of youth culture to see a show, and older, more traditional theatre fans might take some convincing that it isn't just for teenagers, but the West Yorkshire Playhouse is always good for something new and some fresh blood on the scene is very welcome.

Looking forward to this show.
James Bourne talks a little of how he come to write the musical (and a bit about Busted- but not about them getting back together LOL).

I always quite liked the music from Busted, but never rated any of their voices. I think having those sorts of fun songs, but with decent singers, will be a massive improvement.

According to their website, they held a couple of days of open auditions in Leeds and London, as well as a day of closed auditions specifically for YMT, in addition to a few days of regular, via agent, auditions. They were held in February and March.
I got the impression from something Aaron said that he's been linked to the project since last year.

Support this guys go see it. The Quarry theatre is such a great venue and you can see in any seat.
Only 300 in last night which makes me sad for the cast but England were playing so that could have been an issue.
This deserves to well so got everything crossed for them
