Am watching this at it happens live, so far very impressive, loved the children from all parts of Britain singing that wonderfully rousing song Jerusalem, a bit surprised to see Kenneth Branagh suddenly turn up. Anyone else watching this as it happens?

Continued very interesting, more that a little nod to the suffragette movement and all those industrial chimneys going up reminded me of that earlier empire's triumphal coulmns such as Trajan's column in Rome. And was those costumes remninding us of St Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band? Very, very good so far.

Seems as the Queen has a sense of humour after all, she participated in a skit where she welcomed the current 007 Daniel Craig as "Mr Bond" and then a pretend air jump for her into the Olympic arena.

Now a celebration of British children literature, startinh with JM Barrie who donated all following earnings from Peter Pan to a children's hospital. Is Harry Potter coming up soon? Waiting to see...

JK Rowling read from Peter Pan and I think I saw Cruella de Vil in the background before an army of Mary Poppins' arrived to chase away the monsters. Good fun so far!

The Philharmonics just started playing Vangelis' oscar-winning theme from "Chariots of fire" and Rowan Atkinson turned up pretending to play for some comic relief.

Time for the athlethes to march in - will probably to a couple of hours before we get to the end of the ceremony if previous years are to go anything by but the commentators seem to think that it will a bit quicker. Who knows?
