I have no idea what you're talking about regarding your Fiddler on the Roof comment.  Would you still be making your ridiculous comment about survival of the fittest if you were one of their suppliers owed money I wonder?

If they had something in stock I really wanted and couldn't get anywhere else, I'd buy from Dress Circle.  But otherwise I don't think I'll be shopping with them again either. Loved the old store, and the staff in it, but it's all got too weird and unstable for me now.  Definitely wouldn't order online (if they get online again).

Does that mean the website was a separate entity to the shop, or is that the reason the site has been taken off-line? I have zero knowledge about business practices.

I currently have some CD's on order so it would be nice to know if I am going to have to order them from elsewhere.

So they can just owe people £200k, shut up shop, change the name slightly and start trading again? I can understand how creditors are furious. It's outrageous really that they can get away with doing that. Surely there are laws against reckless trading, defrauding people out of money etc. If I was a supplier I'd be insisting on cash on delivery but really I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole! How is anyone crazy enough to supply them with stock in this new store knowing they'll most likely never be paid?

Unfortunately, there aren't (laws) and I agree it is shabby business practise.

I suppose the owners of DC think they should do whhatever it takes to preserve their "institution", but although I loved the shop & used it quite a bit, I feel a bit like having contributed to someones's leaving present & drunk their health at their leaving do, who then gets a promotion & decides to stay.

Surely something more effective could have been done to fund the ongoing business (in whatever form) ?

I have very mixed feelings about the contiuation of Dress Circle now, they have not handled the whole matter very professionally at all.

(And this is not negativity & bile; I see it a lot in the retail business & it's just not right!)

It isn't your 457th comment dissing them Freckles so I wouldn't think for one minute it was. I was merely pointing out that Zippy appeared to have started a one 'puppet' campaign to run them into the ground, when they have done a perfectly adequate job of that themselves. Retail is a tough business and is only going to get more so.

Does anyone know if Dress Circle has actually closed down for good?

The website is off line, and I can't send an email to any of the addresses they have given me.

I made an order and they never sent it! Ggggrrrr

This post on the previous page may enlighten you - Well now we know why it's a pop-up shop, they went into liquidation owing £200K+ and now are operating under a different name full story on The Stage http://www.thestage....-circle-reopens

if they want into liquidation there's a credit card question if you paid by that. If so raise it as an  undelivered goods dispute with the credit card company and they should refund you. I would hope that if people do go into liquidation, the credit card companies would be careful about letting them use their cards again, and that  might be part of the reason why the website isn't up yet. Not sure how a pop up store can have credit card facilities when it might well pop away at some point?

Dress Circle only charge at dispatch so it's not really a problem, except not knowing if you should order from someone else or just wait to see if the website reappears. I would imagine they will have 'lost' all their previous orders again if it is a new company.
