Marianne Elliot will direct Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic next year. I imagine it'll be straight after Kiss Me Kate (ie Feb.March time).

Will he play the bird or the youth?

Marvellous part for a mature actress. I saw it ages ago with Lauren Bacall. Cannot remember anything about the play or the production other than thinking all night "OMG that's Lauren Bacall on stage!"

I notice Baz's article says this will form part of 'Spacey's final season as artistic director at the Old Vic'. Did we know about this? I wonder what we can expect from him as a swansong.

I heard he was going to leave fairly soon, but I didn't realise it was this upcoming year. I think he's done a great job with the Old Vic. I always look forward to going there, and have seen some fab stuff over the years.

Sweet Bird of Youth will be very good hopefully- I really liked KC's Cleopatra at Chichester earlier this year. Can we expect a final Spacey appearance in his farewell season?

He's been there since 2003 so next year will be his 10th year, 10 years is a great run for any artistic director, it'll be interesting who his successor will be.
