Around 30. Like Rachel, Louise and pretty much every other lead Elphaba. The kind of age Idina Menzel was when she debuted the show on Broadway, and Stephanie J. Block, Ana Gasteyer and Julia Murney were when they were were doing workshops for the show.

Is that because most younger singers couldn't sing the role though,  or would risk vocal damage if they did that young?  I think  somone who  can act it credibly as younger fits the uni student story better and adds vulnerability,  and it might be interesting if they found somone who actually was  younger who could play it?  The other side of the equation is that some of the soprano roles, like Christine,  are being tackled well by really young actors at the moment. and there's several  several other people who can play really young , could sing Glinda, act comedy really well  and are the right size. You wonder what fans reaction might be if they saw people who looked/were  younger in the roles. There's also a question mark - more for London than the tour - whether at some point you try something a bit different to avoid everyone being compared directly  to Rachel and Louise?

ooh might see if I can get home around that time, I'm usually not far from Dublin, and it'd be easier than Manchester.

So Alexia at least is ruled out of being Elphaba, seeing as she's going into Book of Mormon.  I'd be very surprised if Kerry comes back, not to mention slightly disappointed.  Rachel...depends on how long she plans to take off on maternity leave and whether or not she'd be tempted by Irish dates! Unlikely I'd think, but like I said before, not impossible.

Part of me can't help wondering though, entirely speculatively, if they've got Sam Barks in for this, with her profile rising off the back of the Les Mis movie.  She's being very secretive about what her next project is (I know there's the Kylie movie rumoured too though, but even if that one's true she could do both) and always made no secret of the fact that she'd love to play Elphaba.  She's still young, but experienced enough I'd say.

Maybe it's just wishful hoping on my part though, I'd love her to play Elphaba!
