So if it's not going to be Wicked, does anyone know what the big Christmas musical will be for the Wales Millenium Centre this year? Would have suggested The Lion King but that's headed for Edinburugh this year. Start of a new UK Tour perhaps?

Apparently SHREK tour starts end 2013, so maybe that ??

Neither Billy or Shrek have announced dates so its possible, I reckon either will be Manchester Palace's Christmas show.

West Side Story is on at the Palace in December.

So I know they're holding open auditions for all the roles, but I'd love it if we could have Christine Dwyer for just a little bit. All her audios on Youtube are brilliant and her run on the 2NT is ending (or has it already finished?). Other than that, I think I'd quite like to see a newcomer cast as Elphaba. Wicked seems very incestous to me, with the same people being passed around the different productions for years at a time. I can understand why though, they're tried and tested Wicked veterans and that inevitably makes it a bit easier.

I'll be getting my tickets to see the tour in April, but I'll aim for the later Manchester dates to give it a chance to settle in and work out any kinks first! Hopefully I can afford to catch it again during my planned trip to London too, It'd be nice to see how she differs to Rachel, who was the last Elphaba I saw.

not true. every elphaba has been new! and every glinda! literally. there's never been someone in the ensemble/ on tour/ swing/ covering who's then played the role. get it right!

In the US, the recycling is crazy - for instance, Broadway has only had two or three Elphabas that had not played the roles previously in another production.
As for London, you're almost right - Kerry Ellis moved up from standby to lead in 2007 and Dianne Pilkington was very briefly 'standby' before Helen Dallimore's contract ended, though both of those are slightly exceptional circumstances.
