My local theatre is awful with single seats. I turned up 30mins or so before curtain up to get a ticket, but the only stalls tix available were either pairs or groups of four. They wouldn't sell me a single seat as it would leave another single seat, or a group of 3, and that's their "policy". How ridiculous is that, 30 mins before curtain up? They'd rather have 2 empty seats than 1.

theatres like this deserve to go dark for their stupid policies.

Sarah Millican is still selling tickets through Ticketmaster etc for her tour- Their fees are as bad or worse than ATG.

Thats a little different as they are an agent so will have negotiated a allocation, ATG are the theatre directly

If enough people do not pay these charges they will soon come down. My local ATC theatre is ridiculously empty most performances - this is due I think largely to a lack of decent product at the moment rather than the charges but I love to go to the box office and ask for a ticket and then refuse to pay the £1 "refurbishment" fee. I am told this is "mandatory" and I say "OK I'll leave it thanks" and walk away!! Then I will go and have a drink and congratulate myself on making a small ( and of course useless ) stand!!

I always think perhaps M&S will start charging fees on top of the purchase price of goods, and next time friends come round for dinner I will charge them a fee for "refurbishment" - my hall could do with a lick of paint!

It's easy to justify the various supplementary charges and fees: "We have an absolute monopoly and you have to play the game our way or not at all, so we'll charge whatever the hell we like and you'll suck it up". They may dress it up in fancy talk about administration costs and providing services, but that's what they're saying.
I have always hated eggs. I remember back when I was a sperm I tried to head-butt one. It did not end well.

Sorry it was in the background. Could have been You and Yours . Def BBC Radio 4
My ears pricked up cos the guy had a posh accent. He represented theatrical booking agencies.
