Just seen that Gertrude to be played by Charlotte Cornwell who was in RSC yonks ago and has since played the Russian ambassador in The West Wing, among other parts.

Reviewers: be careful what you say.

Interesting, I would have thought the defence of "vulgar abuse" would have been applicable there.

But she is thin! I wonder if having a go at critics makes you less employable.

Though you'd think her brother could pull shadowy strings on her behalf or at least hire a discreet assassin

He has connections in the spying world in the same way that JK Rowling has connections in the wizarding world.

They have announced they are reinstating the Newcastle residency -

the company will return for a three-week run in October, presenting its forthcoming productions of Hamlet, All's Well That Ends Well and As You Like It.

First the Barbican, then Newcastle, what next! So far Doran is making some very good decisions, I think.

It amused me that in the video accompanying the current round of announcements Doran did the Doran hair flick in about the first ten seconds.  But he's a top bloke: charming, capable and genuinely engaging as a director.  You might argue that having an RSC lifer means there's a lack of outside ideas, but on the other hand, he understands long-term what the RSC should be doing.  When I went to the M d'A workshops I mentioned, in some context or another, the 1991 Theban Plays (for which Google, interestingly, throws up a lecture in a couple of weeks' time which I am tempted to go to).  He immediately knew what I meant.   Having that depth of history in the company can only be a good thing.

His hair is truly a thing of wonder. He should start his own haircare range
