In the last few months I've been emailed on-line questionnaires by the RSC, NT, Old Vic, Donmar (or was it Almeida) ? and a couple of others (Barbican, I think), all of the same general format and 90% of the questions the same. Why suddenly so many ? Is it an ACE requirement ? Or an exercise to target future marketing material ? The survey companies must be doing nicely out of it.

Me too. Possibly to see whether they are "engaging with new audiences" and "diverse demographics" etc as part of future funding bids?

Dominic Dromgoole in The Empty Room tells of the Bush in his time patiently collecting completed audience surveys, as per Arts Council instruction. After a lengthy period, the theatre destroyed them all, and concocted a fabricated summary which ticked all the Arts Council's required boxes.
