National Theatre Redevelopment Has Started

I'm sure we had a thread about this but can't find it.

For anyone who's wondering what the big metal thing that's appeared outside the front of the NT is, they have confirmed on twitter it's a temporary venue called "The Shed" to be used while the Cottesloe is closed for redevelopment next year.

Indeed. Talked to the man in the coffee shop last Saturday and he said the same. What fun! :) The steel going up looks quite impressive....

I guess this means the St James only has another few months to capitalise on being "London's Newest Theatre" :)

This was widely reported (except for the silly name) after Nick Hytner's NT annual report press conference on 1 Oct. He said then that it's due to open in April.

I guess it's not that silly considering the NT's recent habit of calling new performance spaces by obvious names "The Paint Frame" for instance, is a room where they painted frames. The Shed is, well, a shed.

Least people won't get confused :)
