If you could pick one song from any musical for each of the following what would they be and why?

1) Best male solo song
2) Best female solo song
3) Best Duet (M/F)
4) Best Duet (M/M)
5) Best Duet (F/F)
6) Best Ensemble number

This is my street, I smile at the faces I've known all my life, They regard me with pride.

This usually depends on what mood I am in, so I'll do it on how i am currently :L

1: Best Male Solo Song: I think thats BEING ALIVE from COMPANY every time. It's just a powerhouse of a song.
2: Best Female Solo Song: This is either No Good Deed or currently Get Out and Stay Out from 9 to 5 (Stephanie J Block on that is INCREDIBLE)
3: Best Duet M/F: The Last Night Of The World from Miss Saigon is brilliant?
4: Best Duet M/M: Without doubt, the Confrontation in Les Mis. Javert/Valjean. Blows anything else out of the water.
5: Best Duet F/F: Defying Gravity, no questions. My favourite ever musical song, phenomenal.
6: Best Ensemble Number: One Day More I think, but Revolting Children is also so so so clever.

Would be really interested to hear other people's views on this

1) M solo Epiphany from Sweeney Todd (ignoring Mrs Lovett's "Easy now, hush love hush...)
OR I'm not sure in the context of a musical but I love Michael Ball's Losing My Mind at Hey Mr Producer, or This is The Moment from Jekyll and Hyde or again Being Alive
2) F solo On My Own from Les Mis
3) MM Duet Confrontation from Les Mis OR Pretty Women from Sweeney Todd
4) FF Duet Can't think of many so I'll just say Defying Gravity as well
5) MF Duet A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd
6) Best ensemble Tell Me It's Not True from Blood Brothers

1) Billys soliloquy (Carousel) Tour-de-force of a song
2) Glitter & Be Gay (Candide) ah-a-ah-AH
3) Unworthy of Your Love (Assassins) scary lyrics allied to beautiful melody - it sounds like a  love song, but it ain't!
4) What Would I Do? (Falsettoland) floods of tears everytime
5) I Know him So Well (Chess) hits the nerve
6) Sunday Finale (Sunday in the Park With George) just sublime.
The engine roared, the motor hissed,
And who could see that the road would twist

I find it impossible to narrow most of these down to one choice

Best male solo song: Anthem from Chess, The Music of the Night from Phantom, Til I Hear You Sing from Love Never Dies, One Song Glory from Rent or Bring Him Home from Les Mis

Best female solo song: No Good Deed from Wicked, On My Own from Les Mis, And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls, No One But You from We Will Rock You , If My Friends Could See Me Now from Sweet Charity or What I Did For Love from A Chorus Line

Best Duet (M/F): Sun and Moon from Miss Saigon, A Little Fall of Rain from Les Mis, Somewhere from West Side Story, or (for sheer hilarity) The Song That Goes Like This from Spamalot

Best Duet (M/M): Confrontation from Les Mis

Best Duet (F/F): Take Me or Leave Me from Rent, What Is This Feeling from Wicked or I Know Him So Well from Chess

Best Ensemble number: America from West Side Story, One Day More from Les Mis, You Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray, Seasons of Love from Rent, La Vie Boheme from Rent
