High Points - Constellations (Royal Court upstairs), The Master and Margarita (Barbican), Three Kingdoms (Lyric, Hammersmith), Mess (Traverse, Edinburgh), Brand New Ancients (Albany, Deptford), In the Republic of Happiness (Royal Court), Tis Pity She's a Whore (Barbican), The Recruiting Officer (Donmar),  Three Sisters (Young Vic), You Me Bum Bum Train (somewhere in Stratford).

More disappointments really than Low Points - Sweeney Todd and Collaborators, I expected more insight in both.

Special Mentions - the whole Globe to Globe festival, Isles of Wonder (Olympic opening ceremony)

Extra Special Mention - being in the Olympic Stadium for Super Saturday!

A highlight was Love's Comedy.

A real lowlight was the RSC/Wooster Troilus and Cressida, everything that made it bad from the offensive racial stereotyping to the bad acting was exactly as the directors intended and so it scores lower than things like Damned by Despair where they didn't actually set out with the intention of boring us rigid.

Of my Favourites (see below), I saw the following which didn't make it into any list above: Phantom of the Opera (Bristol ) (a good touring production and fantastic theatre), Rent (Greenwich) (a good attempt), Hedda Gabler (Old Vic) (great performances but a cold calculated Hedda didn't quite do it for me), Torch Song Trilogy (Menier) (not cast well), What the Butler Saw (Vaudeville) (overplayed for laughs; the laughs come when played straight).
If I listed every show I'd seen since 1974 I'd get RSI.

Favourite Musicals: Blood Brothers; Brigadoon; Chicago; Chess; Chorus Line; Company; Evita; Follies; Godspell; Les Miserables; Little Night Music; Little Shop of Horrors; Mack and Mabel; Man of La Mancha; Merrily We Roll Along; Miss Saigon; Phantom of the Opera; Rent; Rocky Horror Show; South Pacific.

Tim Howar - Rock of Ages

Revolution (two hours of my life I will never get back)

A very disappointing year for me, though I suspect I've missed most of the good stuff!

Was delighted by:

Love, Love, Love
Antigone (NT)
Julius Caesar (Donmar)

After that, it's slim pickings, though I enjoyed the following:

The Magistrate
Judas Kiss

Looked forward to, but was thoroughly disappointed, and generally bored by things others have raved about:

Noises Off (Old Vic- OK, not boring but barely tickled me)
Duchess of Malfi (Old Vic)
King Lear (Almeida)
Hedda Gabler (Old Vic)
Scenes form an Execution (NT)
The Effect (NT)

Hey ho, onwards and upwards for 2013, but it'll take a lot to get me back to the Old Vic.
