Does anyone know if at the moment in the West End we have Street Dance Billy's or Ballet Billy's? Also do you know if the choreography for the two is different at any time other than during Electricity?

Currently, 3 of the Billys are 'ballet' (Harris Beattie, Tade Biesinger and Redmand Rance) and 1 is a 'street' Billy (Harrison Dowzell).

There is no difference in their dances throughout the show, apart from in 'Electricity'. Everything else is the same for both 'types' of Billys.

I generally prefer the Ballet version of 'Electricity' too, but the street ones are more exciting and the current street Billy (Harrison) really is fantastic.

I might need to go and see Billy Elliot again, I saw it a few years ago and just thought it was ok but everyone I know raves about it, started listening to soundtrack again yesdterday and really like the score so maybe I just missed something the first time round. Has anyone seen it recently?

It really is a wonderful score. But some of the songs are a lot more effective in context, I think. I see Billy Elliot quite regularly, so my opinion would probably be a bit biased. But it's definitely in great shape at the moment. I'd be interested to see the new cast when they start next month.

Am I the only one reconsidering earlier thoughts that the show would close in the next few months? It seems to be enjoying a surge of success at the moment (how much of this can be attributed to Baroness Thatcher's death I am not sure about).

I'm not sure because there are still offers around for it and its on TKTs as well, not that it means the show isn't doing well at the moment but it must be expensive to run with the constant training and three sets of children.

I've never understood the rumours re the show closing in the next few months, anyway... Being a regular visitor of both Wicked and Billy Elliot, Billy seems to be doing just as well as Wicked at present (ie, sometimes a bit empty during the week, especially mid week matinees / close to full houses at weekends or during holidays). Of course it could end up closing at some point, like almost all shows do, but I think it will run solidly for at least another couple years. I don't get the obsession with discussions about possible show closures either, to be honest. Just let shows run until it's officially announced they're closing.

I had a feeling Billy Elliot would win, but I was still quite surprised they beat Wicked. Incredibly happy, though - they really deserved it. They were shortlisted in the past two years too, so it was about time they won! :)

Closure rumours don't come from nowhere though. Normally when the general consensus is that a show will close within a certain time frame, it generally does.

Billy has been on almost permenent discount for a year or so now and its an expensive show it run. A tour is planned, whether that means the end of london i dont know, but it would make sense. Its a good award to launch a tour with to.

In reality the oliviers dont have the impacts on shows that the tonys do in nyc

The only fact I know about Billy Elliot is that the auditions around Christmas were for 3 month contracts, with an option to extend. That tells me that the producers are thinking of pulling the plug.

Will the award help? A little. Will it help as much as closing notices? Doubt it.
