I was wondering, how do casting directors of musicals view contestants from reality shows? Not just the musical casting shows like Over the Rainbow etc., but from X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. I know a few contestants have gone on to musical theatre (Gareth Gates and Lucie Jones spring to mind) but what's the overall opinion of these shows? Is it a good idea if you want to get into musical theatre or not?
Seen:
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK tour, Wolverhampton), RENT 20th Anniversary Concert (Stoke-on-Trent), Evita (UK tour, Wolverhampton), Wicked (London), The Commitments (London), Les Miserables (London), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (UK tour, Birmingham)

Bill Kenwright often casts people from x-factor and the like, although primarily for his Rock & Roll juke box musicals.
