A little gem. Edward Petherbridge and Paul Hunter, directed by Kathryn Hunter ( related? ) give us the shadow of his Lear and a load of laughs. The three of them wrote and devised it. Theatre jokes and lots of energy. You have to know King Lear a bit I suppose. But give it a go.

Saw this yesterday, I liked the theatre stories, but got to say that Petherbridge isn't really a Lear, but then so many actors aren't

I really enjoyed it, including all the little in-jokes. One of my favourite lines was "it's a one man show where you play all the other roles", which is a rather apt description of Paul Hunter's role(s)

Sounds interesting. Laurna Robertson's review for Livetheatre.co is here: http://www.livetheat...ng-vic-theatre/
Love going to the theatre, London has so much to offer! Launched www.livetheatre.co in December 2012.

"A Little Gem" exactly.  It was even sunnier inside the Young Vic than outside yesterday.  At the very beginning Paul Hunter came out and said "Due to one of the cast having a slight knee injury the show will be a little different and more improvisatory than normal", but dear old Edward Petherbridge didn't give anything other than a top notch and complete performance (if that's what it is), and Paul Hunter's also top notch.  Not that it's any sign of how good a show is but it's the first show I've seen in yonks where I've phoned home instantly after and said "You really must come up and see it this weekend".  I'm a sucker for shows that charm me but I'm cynical enough to not be easily charmed.  This is the charmer of the year, and just a real delight.

This is returning to the Young Vic for a further run (September 2014).

I guess lots more people will get all the King Lear references this time round.
