What about Glenn Close or Amy Adams, just to throw two new names into the mix. Maybe Glenn Close could be Cinderella's mother or Jack's mother. Amy, I've no idea; as I say, it's just a thought. Both can sing and Amy played the Bakers Wife in Into the Woods in Central Park, NY last year and sang in The Muppets Movie.

I also wonder who they'll cast for smaller roles like Red Riding Hood's grandmother, Cinderella's father and the Steward- whether they'll for for a name, albeit for a small role? I mean they've already done that by casting Johnny Depp as the Wolf.

I think also the the casting of Jack and Rapunzel will also be interesting.

I've completely given up on trying to predict which musical movies will ultimately do well (both at the box office and with musical theater lovers), but I'm definitely looking forward to this one, especially since it will be a more user-friendly way to introduce Sondheim to a lot of people (I liked Sweeney Todd, but that wasn't exactly a movie to take grandma to see).  The combination of the casting and the fairy tale concept *should* make it a popular draw at the box office, but ultimately so much hinges on the director's vision and whether or not it connects with a wide audience.

According to BroadwayWorld the latest names being thrown into the hat are Megan Hilty as a Stepsister (not sure which on) and Tracey Ullman as Jacks's mother

According to BroadwayWorld, the cast of Into the Woods are heading to London to begin shooting in September with an offical release date in cinemas nationwide (I'm assuming in the US) on Christmas Day, December 25th.

Here's the latest- The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Anna Kendrick, who is currently filming THE LAST FIVE YEARS adaptation, is in talks to play 'Cinderella' in Rob Marshall's INTO THE WOODS. The actress played the same part in last year's all-star reading of the project. Daniel Huttlestone, who portrayed Gavroche in last year's Oscar-nominated blockbuster Les Miserables, is also currently in talks to take on the role of 'Jack'.
