An interesting article over in the news section where almost all the suitable next NT directors rule themselves out of the running. This is odd because the hyper-ambitious Rupert Goold wouldn't have taken the Almeida job if he didn't know the NT post already had a favoured candidate that wasn't him. Based on the article Jonathan Church is by far the most credible candidate of the handful who haven't said "no". All I can imagine is that Branagh has said "yes".

We presumably have 6 months of identical articles about the Twelfth Doctor but with different names (except possibly for Branagh)

And in each case there have already been articles saying the candidate should be from a minority (Asian, Black) or a majority (female) demographic. John Barton is a bit old but would once have been suitable for both the NT director and Dr Who jobs.

I'm surprised they don't give more thought to Lucy Bailey - her quitting The Print Room was interesting timing

Katie Mitchell would be fun

Yes, Katie Mitchell would probably soon master the sonic screwdriver.

Why not promote Billie Piper?

Is Howard Davies a bit too low profile - for either role....
2014 theatre: Blithe Spirit (Gielgud)  Booked: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Savoy)  Waterbabies (Curve)  View from the Bridge (Young Vic)  Birdland (Royal Court).

Dr Who is going to be black and a woman. No?

The Guardian says that first interviews for the post have taken place, so they must have found more than Rufus Norris (who was one of them) interested.

Anyone know who else they interviewed ?
