Have you considered one of the monologues from Sondheim's Assassins?
Don't we get to be happy? At some point down the line, don't we get to relax without some new tsuris to push me yet further from you!

Who dare tell the lambs in Spring what fate the later season brings?

I seriously hope your audition isn't for a Drama school....

In all honesty, most musicals lack good monologues because monologues mostly act to deliver thoughts/feelings etc and that is what the songs are for in a musical (I.e most of the big solo's in Les Mis like I dreamed a dream, bring him home, on my own, are just sung through monologues). You'd be best to look at straight plays if you want monologues.

Hi, do you mean a solo sung piece, or a solo spoken piece?  I'm not quite clear.
Me is directing again - Private Peaceful at the Charles Cryer Theatre, Carshalton, 23 to 26 April 2014.
