Sadly it is often the actors who get the blame for a very poor production, whereas it should be the production team or author who should be booed or heckled.
Regarding Chichester, I have often found that I can hear the older actors perfectly clearly, even when they speak softly. I wish I could say the same of some of the younger ones, who act as if they are in some television soap. They cannot project or articulate, and that auditorium is especially demanding. This says a lot about the old system where actors would be trained in stage technique and would gain a lot from spending time in rep., yet could easily move into film or TV.
