Look, I'm new to this, so not quite sure to whom I should address this complaint, but PLEASE just give up on the idea of playing music when people log on. It's infuriating and adds nothing at all to your site.

It's on the WOS homepage not the boards. Maybe you have your soundcard switched off? Or your finely-tuned reflexes can get off the homepage before it starts (it was only from the board that I learned how 'Smo...' carried on!)

I get a terrible sense of panic as I try to navigate away from the page before the music kicks in.

Even closing the window with the homepage on doesn't stop the music on my system. Horrible. Although it seems to have stopped now...

Me too!
And it must be VERY distracting for anyone trying to Work
in an office where a colleague (eg during his/her different lunch hour) tries to look something up on WoS!
