Rachel's holiday dates are now 1st-4th October instead of the 3rd, and Gemma has announced she will be doing the show on the 4th :)

Ah it would be great to see Gemma, but I can only go on the 6th.  I'm guessing Rachel will do both shows that day seeing as she'll have been off most of the week...

What's the dayseat queue been like on a Saturday recently?

Yeah I expect she'll do both shows. Afraid someone else will have to help with that, I'm still yet to ever dayseat...!

Will be seeing the show for the first time ever tonight.  A little birthday treat for myself.  Let's see whether the expectations I have of it from occasionally dipping into this thread are met - or exceeded.
Me is directing again - Private Peaceful at the Charles Cryer Theatre, Carshalton, 23 to 26 April 2014.

Well, a terrific performance from Rachel Tucker.  She does so much, character-wise and vocal-wise, she seems to go from Hermione Granger to Spartacus, and you just can't stop watching her.  And I didn't have a clue that she was from Northern Ireland until the appeal for St John's Ambulance.

The first time I see a show, I really enjoy being absorbed/consumed by the story, and wanting to find out what happens next.  I certainly did in the second act (in fact, from the end of the first act onwards).  It's a very modern story, and the links to the original Wizard of Oz are much more cleverly done than implied by the description of a woman on the train who I heard talking about the show years ago.

Music-wise, I don't think it's Schwartz's strongest - there's only really one memorable number (but maybe it suffers as the last shows I've seen were Sweeney Todd and West Side Story).  Loved Adam Pettigrew as Boq, but felt the guy from I'm A Celebrity should just develop a bit more stage craft - maybe turn his face downstage a bit more?

Technically the show is outstanding, and it had a lot more soul to it than I was expecting.  Very glad to have seen it at last.

Just as this again tonight - it never gets old! The more I see it, the more I believe though that a film version will need a LOT added to it in order to make it a success. We'll never have a faithful interpretation, so I'm now after a DVD performance release lol.

And Rachel is pregnant! Didn't know until I saw her tonight... No wonder they needed to find a new Elphaba!
If I stay awake, it must be good.
