#299698 Old Vic New Season

Posted steveatplays on 08 April 2014 - 09:51 AM

It appears that once people get past the waiting room, they feel such joy at arriving at the website, that they are lingering there forever, and the queue is slowing down! Please do spend half an hour browsing around in there, why don't you! :0

Oh wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there there!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new website,
That has such people in't!

I may have about 800 tickets, depending on whether or not my various crashed payments went through.

Not sure if it counts.  But I went to see a Meatloaf tribute act last night in Darlington.  A couple near the first made a huge commotion walking out after just two songs because it wasn't the real Meatloaf.  Quite why you would expect one of the worlds largest superstars to be singing on a wet Wednesday in Darlington on a £20 ticket beats me but they weren't happy and everyone in the stalls and on stage knew about it

Last season was a similar shot of Antony Sher so I assume they now have then up either side of their mantelpiece

Suspect you are right about Kev

Suspect spelt all sorts of ways from Shakespeare's time.... Did he even bother to write down the names or did he just chuck a page at actor and say, here, mate, you're Guildenstern, o hang on a mo, no, you're Rosencrantz.

Diabolical! Surely it was a matinee though?

You know what these short, overcast days are like. Day, night, it all blurs into one around midwinter :D

Someone tweeted that their friend had managed to get them tickets for "Henry V at the Donmar" this morning. Personally I think they should have to forfeit their tickets if they don't even know what they are going to see!!!!

#282650 NT 50th Anniversary Celebration

Posted Pharaoh's number 2 on 02 November 2013 - 12:25 AM

I struck gold this evening. Was in the building anyway to see nut in The Shed, but popped up to the Olivier box office just before it started, and a woman was there with a spare £50 seat- they weren't doing returns as I believe they still had a few £500 seats available. So I got it, missed nut, and had the most amazing evening. As a theatrical presentation it's far from perfect- it's clunky and to my surprise, the revolve is never used. But it'll work much better on the TV as the films (which are projected) will cover up the stage managers running around with torches. Ran at 2hrs25 with no interval, so will need to be cut down a bit before tomorrow. I think they've got a 2hr15 slot on BBC2. But who cares when the cast is to die for. I wanted it to never end.  And there are a couple of unexpected treats which I won't spoil, though they're not top secret. A detailed reading of the programme will reveal.

I came out thinking just what an amazing institution the NT, and British theatre as a whole, is.  And that we really are so so lucky.

Incidentally, lots of the elite were there, dressed up. Cheap night out for them, probably. I saw George and Frances Osborne on the way out. Never seen a row of ultra posh cars on the NT forecourt before either.

I was lucky enough to be there too and it was a spectacular evening. Though a bit clunky as you said, it's really been created for the tv so will read better there I'm sure.
What a cast. I don't think I'll ever see a line up like that on one stage again. There are some wonderful surprises so I won't spoil the 'big ones' but I particularly loved Andrew Scott in Angels in America and The History Boys.

It's a wonderful celebration of the incredible work the NT has produced, and a reminder of how empty our cultural scene would be without it.

Poor you, it does sound awful. Needless to say I am of the 'Every word of two Shakespeares, a Jane Austen, Milton and Wordsworth' generation. Taught by a Leavisite. Truly old school. They should put me in a museum.

Got a great seat - at the moment ('subject to change'), might have a camera in front, I suppose,  but at the moment I am more excited than is seemly for a woman of my age :)
Ah don't tell me excitment is something else that is meant to deminish as you get older :o
Be excited away, we will live through you few going

#276031 Single Theatre Goers

Posted Caz on 23 August 2013 - 07:09 PM

I go the the theatre on my own everytime, and love it.... no one else to worry about, see what l want.. leave when l want if no good! l go probably about 15/20 times in a year....a hobby l took up when my husband died 10 years ago.. l was 43 at the time and didn't want to be a burden to anyone... first time l went on my own l came out like a Cheshire cat with the hugest of grins.. l loved it, mainly go to matinees, sometimes 2 on one day then a hotel, love my own company and always chat to people either side of me... never been aproblem getting seats either.....infact when l tell friends what l am seeing sometimes they say l'll come and then l don't mention it again... cos l actually enjoy going on my own for the above reasons....... and no l would not want a singles table so everyone can go to it in the interval....quite happy to chat with who will ever listen!
