Southampton Premiere - 41N 50W New Play Based On Titanic 1912 Us Senate Hearings

22 March 2014 - 06:11 PM

41N 50W A NEW PLAY BASED ON THE 1912 TITANIC US SENATE HEARINGS SETTING SAIL AT SOUTHAMPTON’S SEACITY MUSEUM FOR THE UK PREMIERE OF THIS NEW PLAY AND IN HONOR OF THE 102ND ANNIVERSARY OF TITANIC’S MAIDEN VOYAGE 10TH -19TH APRIL.

Only days after TITANIC foundered near her last reported position of 41 North 50 West, a US Senate Inquiry was held in New York to determine causes of the disaster. TITANIC legacy has endured over 102 years with tales of sacrifice and human tragedy.  In a SeaCity Museum courtroom setting, just blocks from where TITANIC sailed, experience the rare words & stories as spoken on the stand by actual stunned TITANIC survivors, witnesses and closely connected individuals. These true testimonies in 41N 50W paint a chilling image of unfolding events surrounding the disaster. We see the pieces of a puzzle come together as those involved desperately try to find out the truth and struggle to take action.

After an initial workshop showcase at the new St. James Theatre in London and recent reading at Ken Davenport Studios in New York, which featured Tony Award nominated actress Anita Gillette, 41N 50W makes a 10 performance UK premiere at Southampton’s SeaCity Museum. A special opening night event 10th April will celebrate SeaCity museum’s 2nd birthday with a portion of the evening’s proceeds going to the Millvina Dean Lifeboat Appeal & Titanic Heritage Trust in support of the Royal National Lifeboats Institute.  Millvina Dean was the last living TITANIC survivor. The 14th April performance will be followed by a memorial service in remembrance of souls lost on TITANIC.  The British Titanic Society will also host an invited performance of the play as part of their 2014 Convention.

SeaCity museum, Havelock Road, Southampton is home to a permanent TITANIC exhibit built inside the old Southampton City Hall. 41N 50W will be presented within one of the original courtrooms, adding a special realistic and interactive ambiance of the play.  Seating offers the unique option of general admission, or premium “First Class” leather chairs in the original Jury box or Magistrate’s desk with an elevated view of the action.

41N 50W is adapted & written by Robert Neal Marshall, Directed by Norma Atallah and features West End and Nationally acclaimed actors Michael Vivian (as Senator William Alden Smith), Neil Stewart, Lee William-Davis, Evie Edgell  and Mark Freestone in multiple roles.
