Always amuses me to come on this forum and read such negative comments about performances I enjoyed.
I thought Willemijn was fantastic. I love her tone and she sang Defying Gravity beautifully. So what if she was 'on a roof'? Or if her make up didn't look 'perfect'? The performance was great and that's what matters. I actually quite liked having her perform from the roof... Nice change and it was definitely better for the massive crowd as everyone there could see her and it prevented pushing in the crowd.
I also really like the current Les Mis cast. Not the best I've seen, but they're good. I saw the show again after nearly two years last week, and really enjoyed it. The JVJ does look young, but his acting in the show is very strong and he has a nice voice. I also particularly love Carrie as 'Eponine' (No, I am not one of her crazy teenage fans/"hopefuls". I simply think she's brilliant at portraying Eponine).
On the subject of the awards, I'm pretty pleased with the winners. Only major disappointment for me was Katherine Kingsley not winning 'best supporting actress in a play' - she really deserved it. Also was kind of hoping Jared won 'best actor in a musical' instead of Gavin as I find Jared a much more entertaining and versatile actor, but I'm happy for Gavin nontheless.
Book of Mormon definitely deserved all their awards. Also glad that Once got some recognition and particularly happy that Zrinka won 'best actress in a musical'.
[...] I can understand why people might think it not for such a small role. Perhaps the category should be broadened?
I'm not saying that Willemijn should win because Elphaba is the harder role, but I think that Elphaba should compete against Guy, Girl, Valjean, Elders Price and Cunnigham, Galileo etc., whereas Eponine should be in the same category as say Nabalungi, Meat, Fiyero, Miss Honey, Miss Trunchball (?)
But yeah, I also think the actor/actress with the largest fan base will win regardless how good/bad (s)he plays that role...

I'm just hoping someone will film Willemijn's 'Let It Go'!
Willemijn sings Let it Go? In English? And not that strange German version? Why again am I flying back home today and not seeing this live on stage?
I would say uts entirely fair in this case. Yes Carrie has a huge following, but so does Wicked and its fans will vote regardless of whether they have actually seen the cast member in question. Wicked has won plenty of awards thanks to its young fans who are internet/social media savvy
i bought so much from DC over the years and never got a signed copy of anything! I'll stick to Amazon. I once witnessed some poor guy being shouted at once because he wanted to return a CD that wasn't working. Just poor service all round.
