His remark to Shenton was just plain rude. And terribly revealing.

I for one can live without seeing that performance  of Tell me on a Sunday.. What a shocker it was even nominated.

I'm sorry but Les Mis does not need any more tv publicity.

It's just not good enough. You wouldn't get the Tonys showcasing these old shows year after year.

I'd rather cut the Piazza nonsense and have better longer excerpts from shows or performances by singers as part of the actual awards.

I find the awards themselves so utterly naff. That Gok wan turns up to present an award and the theatre full of the cream of British theatre has to sit and watch a live relay of Mylene Klass in the Piazza presenting dreary old Wicked and Les Mis performances is just too embarrassing for words.

Then later on they have to sit through Phantom and Matilda.

Why don't they showcase forthcoming shows? Surely Dagenham/Pajama Game/Memphis could have cobbled together some sort of performance.

Love the hysteria about getting last night tickets! Please keep it going.... Start breathing heavily and slamming doors .... The injustice of it all!

The truth is that it's not the small handful of crazy fans that have seen it 100 times who have kept it going, but the thousands and thousands of tourists who have bought cheap tickets in Leicester square for it. It's quite right that the last performance should be a celebration for those who made the show happen to begin with.

(No offers to do it for me  thanks!!)

That is all very well but I bet hardly anyone is paying full price. It's just not good enough considering the cost of the theatre and the huge production. I've had endless emails this week with ticket deals.

Mark I saw this recently In NY too and I totally agree. The best musical I've seen in years. Moving, beautiful, elegant and the two best performances I've seen in a long long time. I hope it sweeps the Tonys. It's way better than the other new shows.

I want it to come here... But with those leads and that beautiful production.

#299651 Evita Westend 2014

Posted MrBarnaby on 07 April 2014 - 09:45 PM

How can anyone who's seriously interested in quality productions being performed in London get excited about a touring version of Evita  clogging up a west end theatre?

I'm not trying to discredit the production... It may be marvellous, but nonetheless it's a touring production of a show seen in London in recent years and it's just not good enough.

I'm starting to despair at the general lack of quality in the west end at the moment.

"This is infantile, witless, noisy, embarrassing, derivative, shamelessly money-grubbing tripe, like some horrible offspring of tele-virtual incest.."

For those obsessed with star ratings... It's a one star review.
