In Topic: Fame Musical 2014 Uk Tour

Saw this last night in Wimbledon and thought it was a bit of a mixed bag. I only went because there was an offer for £13 tickets, so I thought I'd try. I saw the original London production and a few productions since, but never been a big fan of the show.

This "remixed" tour does sounds good. I like the way they've updated the score to make it sound more relevant. However, the set is SO cheap. A few boxes on wheels that are shifted around endlessly. Not even the yellow taxi to dance on at the end of the show. The choreography is fantastic, although some cast members were out of time and really distracting throughout every dance number! Once they get it together, the show is worth seeing for the choreography alone.

The cast is a bit of a mixed bag too. Landi Oshinowo, Jodie Steele, Molly Stewart and Joseph Giacone really stood out, but the rest of the cast weren't great. Overall it had the feel of a GSA end of year show I thought. Schlomo had a weird accent that went from American to Irish during the interval! Nick was far from the amazing actor he was supposed to be and both him and Serena had very weak voices.

It was worth £13, but I'm glad I didn't pay more.

After seeing Fame last night, I'd love to see Landi Oshinowo in Dreamgirls. She was amazing.

I saw this last night and thought it was brilliant (and I am not a friend or family of anyone in the cast!) I listened to the cd years ago and wasn't impressed, but seeing it on stage in all its originality made for a brilliant night out. I didn't realise from the cd just how funny and tongue in cheek the show is.

The cast are all brilliant. Especially the narrator, he has such stage presence. Richard Fleeshman shines once again and shows he's more than just muscles, his comedy was great.

The two level set looks great, but (from the front row) the sight lines are terrible! Most of what happens on the top level can't be seen. They need to bring the action right to the front. I could see a few heads now and then, but that was it. I would say you need to be in row f and back (row c the front row). Avoid the front row at all costs! The stage comes out so far that you get no room to move your feet at all. I was really uncomfortable.

I hope they can move things a bit and improve the sight lines. I will try to go back and see it from further back so I can see what was going on upstairs!

Saw this last week and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. The cast are great and there's some good songs (glad it's getting recorded). Might try to catch it again before it closes.

Urinetown would work in there nicely too. Surely that must be looking for a West End theatre by now...
