I am not saying there is anything wrong with an audience choice award. Despite it just being a popularity contest it doesn't bother me. The biggest problem surrounding a televised Olivier awards is that the west end does not work in seasons, so this years musicals, FHTE, SW, ICS, DRS will get there chance next year, when there is a good possibility that they will ALL be gone. I can see the argument about showing older shows as no one wants to see something that's closed. But, I think ignoring even the medley of revivals for broadcast on Sunday was a mistake. It made the award look unimportant.

Yes, but from a TV perspective give the new productions and revivals the air time, not the old shows.

Or how about celebrate new productions and revivals and try and get some bums on seats for them rather than publicising the same old shows that are going to sell tickets whether or not they appear on top of a roof with dodgy make up or not...

I agree with the above. Why do we need to see One More Day again? Scrap the audience choice awards performances and give revival shows full segments to perform in.
