Luke Kempner The Only Way Is Downton

14 February 2014 - 01:44 PM

I wasn't quite sure which category to put this show in, currently at The Trafalgar Studios.  In fact, I booked it with a friend who is a fan of Downton having never seen an episode myself & really wasn't sure if it was going to be for me...
But it was FANTASTIC, and I laughed so much. A one man show, in which the very talented Mr Kempner plays all of the characters, many from Downton but he cleverly manages to work in many others as well. He's a superb impressionist with a fantastic eye for detail and a wicked sense of humour. There's lots of parody & even an amazing show tune too.
So I am recommending it, sometimes you take a chance on something and have a really great time which is what happened here. And if you love Downton Abbey, you'll probably get even more out of it than I did!
It's at the Trafalgar for another week, then touring.

Been On Broadway - Duchess Theatre Sun 13Th October

11 October 2013 - 03:57 PM

This sounds a good idea for a concert; am trying to decide whether to go as I haven't heard of any of the performers.

Details here

Did anyone see the smaller version they did recently at The Pheasantry? Was that the same line up?

West End Men (Vaudeville Theatre)

29 May 2013 - 07:28 AM

Saw this last night and was really impressed. I don't want to spoil the set list for anyone going but it was a wonderful array of MT numbers (with a little bit of 'pop'), beautifully performed by Lee Mead, Glenn Carter, David Thaxton and Matt Willis. There's a brilliant llive band on stage too.
They were joined  in Act 2 by special guest star Kerry Ellis, who was fantastic too, and a choir.
A really enjoyable evening, but it wasn't full which is a pity. But I would recommend it.
(The cast looks a bit fluid though, so check who is on before you book.)
