they want the exposure to help their careers becasue the need it, because its no longer about possessing just talent, its now about who's done what reality tv show/ reality pop group etc.
they audition privately with dignity and thats what most prefer, but to have to get up on a stage in front of an audience like many have done and not get through to the next round publicly, get booed/ cheered/ put down by judges.. all in front of the general public is NOT what any self respecting artist chooses to do.
they do it because if they don't someone else will get the role and they wouldn't have had a chance.
they do it because others who are on these shows end up leading tours and making twice as much money as everyone else.. they do it because the people that do are their competition.
thats why i meant they are forced onto a public stage. because if they don't they're left behind without a profile to use against someone who has been on tv for two minutes.
They do it because it gives them an audience to impress, and get noted. Some did it as a way of getting noticed and for a chance of getting a major role, post training. A few did it as the leading drama schools failed to spot top talent - and it was another opportunity. Others did it before going of to professionally train. I think he did a good job finding a fair proportion of the top talent coming up. The shows also discovered some other top talents who didn't even get past boot camp. Top talent deserves what it deserves, wherever its found.
Now its arguably true that the TV show judging was sometimes dodgy, the voting more so, faults that were transient were overblown, and dubious imposed song choices, or VTs, shaped the outcome. Some people did well, others have been sadly underused. Even many of the best are currently invisible, or off to America, films TV, or plays - along with much of the other WE MT top talent. I doubt though if thats a more negative process than the traditional audition process - that hadn't and wouldn't have found all the same talent, makes sillier decisions, and often finds less capable people.
