Topics I've Started

The James Plays

02 April 2014 - 09:14 AM

Well, dates out today. They have only put all 3 plays on 2 dates and one of those is press night and a Thursday! So only 1 Saturday in the last week of the run for the true obsessives...I fancy all 3 on the same day but don't really want to wait until that late in the run....

A Streetcar Named Desire

17 March 2014 - 12:48 PM

So they have finally decided on dates for this and are busy contacting members who bought tickets to book us into the performances!

First performance Thurs 24th July
Press Night Mon 28th July
Last performances  Sat 6th Sept
So basically the school holidays!

Matinees on Wednesdays (most) and Saturdays

I phoned today to get my seats and they told me it was "in the round with a revolving stage" ! Got front row seats for my 2nd price tickets! Excited!

Donmar Membership Scheme

10 March 2014 - 08:42 AM

Ok, so letter in the post this morning....the bottom three levels to be replaced with one new level of 75 a year. "Sorry that this is a big increase for the lowest level, blah, blah, blah. Basically don't want your support if it is small amount." Ah well, that's another membership gone.

I may have used my own interpretive paraphrasing there......

Queen At National Theatre

21 October 2013 - 02:20 PM

They have tweeted to say that the Queen and Philip will be there tomorrow! Anyone going?!

Daytona At Park Theatre

15 July 2013 - 10:02 AM

Went to the matinee on Saturday. Nice air conditioned venue ( bar and auditorium)  and main house looks much like the Donmar inside.
Play a bit annoying. Much of the first half is one character droning on about why he has arrived and the other telling him to hurry up, it's late and he wants to go to bed. I'm afraid I had sympathy with the later. The second half livens up a bit (and is much better as we get a lot of Maureen) but I struggled with a few changes of pace here and there and found it all a bit heavy going. There is very fine on stage hoovering and sewing. Peggs and I did talk quite a lot about it afterwards and there are plenty of issues (and questions left unresolved) but I was not wildly impressed.
Would be interested to hear what others think, although the theatre was pretty empty so maybe no-one much planning to see this?
