#300027 National Theatre Lets War Horse Musicians Go

Posted jaqs on 10 April 2014 - 02:44 PM

Its kind of weird that it says how much of the nationals musician budget they take up, when I'd have thought War Horse was self sufficient and if it isnt should close.

Isn't Benny Cummerbund a bit too old for 'Hamlet'...?
Be about the same age as when Michael Sheen did it? Who I thought was too old too.

I'm pleased for the show as I find it great fun.
I'm honestly baffled that Letts didn't outright hate it, not sure if it's a good or bad thing I'm surprised he's been so balanced.

Of course the tabloids do fill their pages with xfactor stories and imagine they need to keep a good relationship with Cowell so may not want to be too scathing.

Sinittas dress is pure panto queen. I think the production pictures are really going to help, the showgirls, the judges, the alter boyz, they all make the show look flash and are familiar for the general public, hooefully enough to get them buying tickets.

My 15 upper circle ticket upgraded to G in stalls, 3 people left before the end of the first song, think that's a bit extreme.

I do like the girls costumes.

About 35min interval, but finishing by 10.25ish.
Big school party had to leave early.

The frakking song has gone.

It's still a total mess from the moment the hunchback crashes back.

The producer had a few less its hot in here/charm bracelet lines and the shadow shower was shorter.

I'm glad to have been back, love the first half. They really need a proper big song to match I can't sing for Chenice in the second half.

28 is too much for the back row, you miss all heads in the upper level. Front has to be a better deal, even if you get a sore neck.

For comparison their neighbours at the South Bank Centre ramped up their membership price this year from £45 to £65, a 44% increase, for no apparent reason.

To pay for all their appeals against Lambeth decisions?

I'd forgotten the fly. That was another 'wacky moment'.

Agree about Barlow being over and underused. There were moments in the second act where a comment was needed and a few too many in the first.

Now I'm worried that I broadly agree with both of you, as when there's been a consensus on here of what needs changing it hasn't happened.

All the impending doom news makes me more excited for the show. I'd no idea it would have a complicated set.

Never understood why we're only allowed to like one or the other, and what gets all other musical composers off the hook.

Front row was alright for sister act, as long as you wernt directly behind the conductor.

#293366 Michael Grandage Season

Posted jaqs on 18 February 2014 - 05:20 PM

Agree that it might not have been a season to create new repeat visitors, I think The donmar have probably done a better job of that with the Hiddlestone casting.

It will have reduced the regulars who book for Grandage in the future. Or at least I won't be booking 18months in advance for his work again.

In the balcony too. Another one where we'll need badges.
