I saw The Audience last week - first time I'd seen one of the broadcasts and I was very impressed by the quality; it's not the same as actually being there, but it's a close second (and considerably cheaper). The only problem - as ever - is audience behaviour. Where I saw it, there was constant wandering in and out and it was very disruptive, to the extent that for me it's a significant reason not to give it another go. I was in a lecture theatre so a cinema might be better or at least less creaky - have people found that in other venues the audiences largely behave?

If I had people crowding round me as I left work all eager to say how very much they appreciated the outstanding job I'd done that day, I think I'd find it delightful and annoying in equal measure.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago - it's Titus Andronicus basically, so you know what you're getting! It's not as gory as some versions but inevitably there's some splatter. A good production with some good performances - thought I thought the actress playing Lavinia was remarkably phlegmatic in response to being raped and mutilated. If you want to see TA this is a worthwhile production to see - I'm not sure I'll put myself through another one in a hurry though.

I suppose it isn't WOS's job to talk advertisers out of giving them money on the basis that it's a bit pointless!

The thing is, the typical theatregoer is not a slim-hipped 19 year old - it's people like me and (I assume) you who suffer a bit of middle-aged spread, so theatres should be taking that into account. Cottesloe seats were particularly non-spacious, and I ended up uncomfortably close to many people there but I wouldn't say the fault was with me or the perfectly reasonably sized people on either side. Unless someone is immense, we should all expect to get both buttocks on a seat. But there are some people who are far too massive to operate in an average sized world, and I'm not sure what ushers are supposed to do if faced with someone who has a ticket but can't get into their seat or make other people very uncomfortable.
