The female lead being frustrating is the whole ruddy point of the show! Both her and the Man are equally guilty of doing the "wrong" thing because they are scared of taking a leap into the unknown - thats the undercurrent of the premise, if you settle for what you have you may be happy and have some success but true enlightenment will be passed up as you are happy to be in a rut rather than take a risk.

I do wonder if the casual buyer, who lets face it will be the majority of ticket buyers, maybe thought it was a return of the musical and thus decided not to bother - having seen the musical previously.
