#300593 Olivier Predictions

Always amuses me to come on this forum and read such negative comments about performances I enjoyed.

I thought Willemijn was fantastic. I love her tone and she sang Defying Gravity beautifully. So what if she was 'on a roof'? Or if her make up didn't look 'perfect'? The performance was great and that's what matters. I actually quite liked having her perform from the roof... Nice change and it was definitely better for the massive crowd as everyone there could see her and it prevented pushing in the crowd.

I also really like the current Les Mis cast. Not the best I've seen, but they're good. I saw the show again after nearly two years last week, and really enjoyed it. The JVJ does look young, but his acting in the show is very strong and he has a nice voice. I also particularly love Carrie as 'Eponine' (No, I am not one of her crazy teenage fans/"hopefuls". I simply think she's brilliant at portraying Eponine).

On the subject of the awards, I'm pretty pleased with the winners. Only major disappointment for me was Katherine Kingsley not winning 'best supporting actress in a play' - she really deserved it. Also was kind of hoping Jared won 'best actor in a musical' instead of Gavin as I find Jared a much more entertaining and versatile actor, but I'm happy for Gavin nontheless.

Book of Mormon definitely deserved all their awards. Also glad that Once got some recognition and particularly happy that Zrinka won 'best actress in a musical'.

I was also at the press night tonight! It's a very intense and atmospheric play. I wasn't sure if I would like it as it's a bit slow to get going at the beginning. The second half is much better than the first.

Strong performances all round. Thought the 2 leads were fabulous especially the actress playing Eli, whose performance was quite haunting and I was engrossed whenever she was on stage.

The staging and special effects were good and there was a moment where I literally jumped out of my seat (jeez don't think I could cope seeing Ghost Stories!). I thought the omnipresecent music worked well. Also loved some of the balletic choreography.

It was nice to be inside the Apollo again. The false ceiling they have designed compliments the set really well.

Yes it had an utterly crap story and the jokes were beyond lame. A show where you had to leave your brain and any tastes of good theatre at door.

but such great music, delivered brilliantly.

I agree - WWRY is absolute garbage from a storytelling perspective; a completely incomprehensible story, paper-thin characters and utterly awful one-liners and puns, but you could never deny the incredible amount of talent and energy on-stage and in the pit. Pretty much the definition of 'a great night out', and TCR won't be the same without the Freddie statue.

I thought ROOPer was perfect as the vampish young wife.

I saw the show on Wednesday and thought the new wizard was generally very good.  He did seem to be a little out of breath at times, but a solid display I would say.  I did prefer him to Keith and Des, the most recent wizards I have seen, however not as good as Clive Carter.

Rest of the cast were in fine form.  Sam Edwards on for Fiyero, infinitely better than Ben Freeman.  Willemijn and Savannah were a really great pair and it would be great to see their chemistry towards the end of their run.

According to Twitter, Emma Stephens is joining too. Know she was cast as Lorraine a couple of years back but due to pregnancy (I think) couldn't assume the role so wonder if she's back for that :)

She is back as Lorraine....her pregnancy was the reason Charlie stayed for the extra 6 months. So it is not surprising that she is coming in.

The only thing I am concerned with is what has happened in the past with other shows - and I'm hoping if it has happened it better not be as Frankie...as that will wreck the show.

Trolling "a person who sows discord on the internet by starting arguments or upsetting people". If u were on here last night the comments te new poster made (which have been, thankfully, taken down) were a perfect example of trolling
I do not try purposely upset people or start arguments but try and engage and poke fun of what can b quite a stuffy board.
I go and see every production that I post on so feel I have the right to post (in my opinion) humourous skits that might entertain some people. Also it cheers me up as sometimes the negativity to productions (often not seen by the poster or not even to have started) often makes me feel really sad.
I appreciate some people just want this board for seriousness and information and there I plenty of that around. Thou my ego would be delighted, I'm sure no one on here is seriously effected by my quite often irreverent posts

Lots of love

Don't talk during the overture or I will want to slap you!!!

It can't just be me who thinks the show starts the moment the lights go down regardless of whether there are actors on stage or not, can it?

Seen it last night. Didn't even notice she cracked so she must have covered it well. Overall great performances. Love Marilyn as Morrible and the leads were great. Liam Doyle was just like all the later London Fiyero's nothing really to write home about. The show was great from finish to end. The sound indeed could be a lot louder but I am sure they will adjust that through time. The orchestrations are more synthetic, the staging is smaller and more basic but the heart of the show is still there and the sets and costume are all the same. :)

Willemijn sounds incredible from the YouTube footage. Mind blown. Maybe the Louise Dearman fans left because WV was better than they thought she'd be and couldn't take it? Either way, pretty disgusting behaviour.
