The programme was £4.
its quite a bit better I thought than its reviews. The stalls and the royal circle were almost full today for the matinee. Didn't see any escapees at half time. There were quite a few people in who actually laughed at Lee Evans playing a fool - so that bit of casting is working even if he's totally incredible as a gangster. If you like silly walks and faces he can do them. Sheila Hancock does a great turn as the terrible matriach of the clan. She does a great job shocking the audience. Keeley Hawes is excellent- transformed totally into Chrissie the Essex gangsters moll - just totally in her very different role throughout. She's really good at comedy. Nice work from Montserrat Lombard too. Loud applause at the end.
The script if there was one on offer - given the swear quotient - would have to come in a sealed bag. One of the bizarre things was what looked like 10-12 year olds in the audience? There's going to be some interesting linguistic conversations in some houses this weekend -and in some school playgrounds next week.
I too was at the matinee. Tho up in the balcony. It was full up there too tho we had some escapees at the interval. Row of around 8 behind me. Overall I enjoyed it.
