Had to leave at the interval for this. I just couldn't bear a lot of the acting/characters. The Jess and Prince Harry scenes were really noteworthy and horrible. I would have much rathered a play where Harry was in Afghanistan so I got more Tim Piggott-Smith.
Part of me wonders if I should go again and try to be more tolerant of those Prince Harry scenes but it will be hard work.

I thought this was great. Miller's work is so strong and engaging that it doesn't need a fancy, elaborate set *side eye to A Small Family Business* and I am desperate to see The Crucible now. I felt a lot of it resonated today (2nd generation immigrants vs the newcomers) and the odd relationship between Eddie and Katie seemed especially odd in this Yewtree era but it was clear Miller's real issue was the Communist with hunts and what should be done to snitches. Maybe I read it wrong and being completely pretentious.

Mark Strong's presence has been missed in theatre, whilst I was pleased he was doing well internationally he needs to come home and be in more plays!

I appreciate people like him, there's been so many revivals after all . There's a dark element, absolutely but for many (including the trio in front of me) nothing really happens. I've only seen Absent Friends and A Small Family Business but it seems to be lots of characters in a house, where there is no resolution and many of the characters have no or little purpose. ASFB feels like a waste of a good cast with very little to do because it is so overwhelming.

I am particularly disappointed ASFB didn't have Kara Tointon.

Some people just bonded over their immediate need to escape because it was so awful. They were of a certain age so surprised they hadn't seen Ayckbourn before. He's basically a feature length soap writer. I will come back once I have seen the whole play and had an ice cream.
