It's rumoured for the Adelphi

How well is The Bodyguard doing exactly? I'm quite surprised it's ran this long!

My astrologer suggested 1st April.

Tell your astrologer there's no need to act like a dick about it.

#282024 The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton

Posted jamescrispy94 on 27 October 2013 - 01:43 AM

Looks like the website has been changed back to the original (with new logos)! Clearly it was as well-received as they thought. Having just started university in Southampton, I am looking forward to visiting this as my new local theatre (after visiting in 2007). I think the new foyer looks fine in all honesty, but I agree with the branding sounding strange loosing the "The" in the title. I notice that the Birmingham Hippodrome does it as well after hearing/watching advertisements or reading articles, they say "at Birmingham Hippodrome" rather than "at the Birmingham Hippodrome". Not only that it doesn't even say "Theatre" anymore in the flippin' name! From the photos I have seen (and from what I remember from my previous theatre) I think it looks fine, although I always thought green was a weird colour for an auditorium (Wicked an Shrek would suit playing there!).

While on the subject of the theatre, can anyone tell me what the view is like from the rear balcony? Am thinking of booking a cheap seat for War Horse before it sells out!

#281131 Newsies Coming To London?!?

Posted jamescrispy94 on 17 October 2013 - 11:34 PM

Or maybe they could scrap the idea of doing a try-out and put it straight in the West End, BUT only for a limited run? After all, that's what happened with the Broadway production, and then due to the high demand they made it open ended!

#279323 Matilda Musical

Posted jamescrispy94 on 29 September 2013 - 11:58 AM

The Broadway cast album is now available to buy from iTunes, both a standard version and a deluxe version which has 2 extra tracks; "Perhaps A Child" (a cut song by Sergei, which sounds like they were right to cut it out!) and "Naughty" by all four of the Matildas. After listening to the previews I can only say I'm glad I bought the Original Stratford Cast album! I'm not quite sure how to explain it but this one just sounds a bit more "Broadway-fied" like you've got extra people singing or extra musicians playing when it didn't really need them compared to the Stratford cast. And what is up with the preview of the overture?! If the rest of it sounds as miserable as the preview then I hope they don't put it into the London production!

Has there been any more news/rumours about casting this especially as the tickets go on sale very soon

Hopefully Cameron may announce a lead cast member or two soon. I've noticed he's done it as soon as his other recent shows have gone on sale, i.e. Betty Blue Eyes with Sarah Lancashire and Reece Shearsmith, Oliver! with Rowan Atkinson, Oliver! tour with Neil Morrissey/Brian Conley, Phantom and Les Mis tours with John Owen Jones/Earl Carpenter.

#267316 Musicals You Would Love To See Come To The West End?

Posted jamescrispy94 on 02 June 2013 - 05:51 PM

Not just for the West End, but I think Disney should have a go at making Hercules as a musical! It would be fantastic with the gospel choir (a bit like Little Shop of Horrors in some ways)

#262849 New Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham.

Posted jamescrispy94 on 22 April 2013 - 06:12 PM

This theatre is special to me (being a local Brummie) as it was the first proper professional theatre I had ever been to (aside from the Palace in Redditch). But I must admit I haven't seen anything there since Spamalot in Christmas 2010 just as its over-shadowed by the Hippodrome's large scale hit shows.
Not to say there haven't been any shows recently that I regret not booking, i.e. One Man Two Guvnors, Chicago, Sweeney Todd or Scrooge (which I later saw at the Hippodrome anyways) but it seems the line up is mostly one-nighters like comedians, psychics, singers and kids shows.

However I can't help thinking that there have some recent Hippodrome shows that have looked to small there and probably would have been better suited to the Alex such as Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors, the countless number of Blood Brothers visits (however I suppose that's due to the combination of the  popularity and the larger capacity).

And he'd already been in it for 3 years or so in London!! Somehow I don't think he's going to match that as Jerry Travers

I know that's where I saw him! But to stay in such an energetic role continuously for a long time is definately an achievement. I can imagine this role also requires a huge amount of energy, so (forgive the pun) HATS OFF TO HIM for coming straight into this from Poppins!

#251853 Movie Musicals - Post Les Mis

Posted jamescrispy94 on 13 January 2013 - 11:05 PM

I think it was going to be Cate Blanchett for Mrs Johnson and Bono as the narrator for the Blood Brothers movie. I personally would love to see a Blood Brothers movie but I think it would be better as a British film with a smaller budget than a huge Hollywood blockbuster as it would be better at portraying the back street sort of Liverpudlian poverty. It would be interesting seeing it with ACTUAL child actors. But I think the downside would be (as pointed out when the west end run ended) that a film or any sort of recording would stop schools visiting the UK tour, or unless Kenwright decides to tour it more rarely now (which I hope he doesn't!). Plus one of the huge pulls of the show is the dramatic plot that most the audience wouldn't expect.

This might be a bit unlikely as it isn't as popular on stage (and it hasn't even been in the west end yet!) but I'd love to see a Jekyll and Hyde movie, just as long as it isn't another Tim Burton/Jobnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter collaboration.

Also I remember reading an article somewhere that Jerry Springer would play himself in a movie of Jerry Springer - The Opera, but obviously that wouldn't happen now with Christian protests. Plus it wouldn't really work anyway.

#251123 Favourite Lyrics In Les Mis

"It's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right, put your hands on your hip, and bend your knees in time, and it's the pelvic thrust that drives you really insane..."

Best lyrics in the whole show <3
