I fully agree with that - I used to sometimes buy cheap seats at the back or high up to save money, but ended up feeling completely disconnected - so in the end, just wasted that money.  Now I rather pay more, take advantage of "restricted view" seats close to the stage or queue for Day Seats in the front row to be up close to the action - or just don't go at all.

I think it has to do with feeling immersed, feeling close to the cast, with only a few rows of heads between me and the stage (or none at all) and not looking across a sea of heads towards a small stage and tiny actors in the distance, where it's often not possible to even see their facial expressions properly. That's also why I love smaller fringe theatres and abhor huge barns like the Palladium.

I'm surprised that DRS would have to paper the house since there are no discounts available. Wouldn't it make more sense to shift tickets at least for half price or another discount than to give them away for free?

Though I think it's a big leap from "based on talking to the people sitting next to me" to "I was the only one in the house who paid". ^_^

Well admittedly I had ZERO interest in this show for the longest time, but following the discussion here and now the fairly positive reviews, I am interested enough to fork out 20 pounds for the front row and form my own opinion.

The Daily Mail review was positive too - though I can't take someone seriously who writes ""(it) is a hundred times more likeable than The Book of Mormon"

You're kidding, aren't you?

Though honestly, I can't see this stuff being worse than the shoddy souvenir shops flogging Made in China junk that are currently lining most of Coventry Street up to the Empire Cinema.
