#298514 Ghost On Tour 2013 Thread

I'd be interested to see a small scale amateur production to see how it holds up. I absolutely love the show and would be interested to see if I love it as much without the scale of production, effects, lighting etc. Wonder if they'll incorporate special effects or skip things like walking through the door? Interesting.

Just back from the second night in Manchester. WHAT A FAB SHOW!

I had no preconceptions about it at all, never even saw the film but I sat there literally with a smile on my space the whole night. And guess who the stand out performance was.... Rufus Hound and that was the last thing I was expecting. He's so energetic, very cute, the acting is great and the singing great too. He certainly shows up Robert Lindsay in that department.

All the cast were excellent. No weak links, loved Samantha Bond and the guy who plays the French guy. The costumes and design were gorgeous, it looks very very classy.

Got invited to a focus group afterwards and the feedback was pretty much 100% positive. Some sound issues bring the only real complaint (orchestra too loud on some songs, drowning the vocal).

I really wasn't in the mood for going tonight but so glad I did. Loved it.

Does anyone know as part of this tour whether this show will be heading back to London? I missed it the first time around

Seems to be avoiding where it went last time - no Bromley and its done Wimbledon. .It is rather special though, I thought, and if  you do want to see it,   its coming to Tunbridge Wells - which is near the station and  within easy train reach ? Will Young is still excellent as the Emcee and Siobhan Dillon is outstanding as Sally, credibily  unstable,  and stunning singing cabaret. The ensemble is full of energy too.

#274635 'The Musicals' - New Channel 4 Documentary

Posted musicalmadness on 08 August 2013 - 02:45 PM

I wasn't sure whether this belonged in General Chat or Musicals, but it is pretty much focused on musicals so thought here would be best!

Taken from an article from The Stage written by Matthew Hemley:

"Musicals including The Bodyguard, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Top Hat are being lined up to feature in a new behind-the-scenes documentary programme to be broadcast on Channel 4.

The series, which is due to be broadcast at the end of the year, is being made by Jamie Oliver’s production company, Fresh One, and was commissioned by Channel 4’s arts editor Tabitha Jackson. Arlene Phillips is an executive producer.

Currently in production under the working title The Musicals, it is expected to reveal how a show is mounted and run, and will cover all the important steps including auditions, rehearsals and opening night.

As well as big-budget West End offerings, the series – understood to be in four parts – is expected to feature larger regional productions such as Barnum at the Chichester Festival Theatre, as well as touring shows.

Earlier this month, the producers filmed open auditions for the forthcoming touring production of Happy Days, which is being produced by Amy Anzel and directed by Andrew Wright.

Anzel told The Stage: “I think it’s important that the public sees what goes on behind the scenes as reality talent shows make it seem a bit glamorous and shiny, and that is the complete opposite of what this business is like. Musical theatre performers are the hardest working people in the business. You have to be extremely disciplined and hard-working, and it’s rare that someone just comes out of the woodwork. There’s usually years of hard work and training behind them and lots of disappointment, which usually continues to drive them.”

She added: “My journey getting Happy Days up and running over the past four years has been full of blood, sweat and tears and I thought it would be amazing to share that with the public.”

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 confirmed that production was going ahead, but stressed it had not yet been decided which shows would appear in the final series."

This could be absolutely fantastic - If done correctly and by the right people...thoughts?

It's a fact there are more venues, it is a guess it will finish in march... Seems kinda obvious to me.

I still think the great glass elevator finale needs work and I hope they enable them to float over the audience or something to that effect.

As this is the spoiler thread, I will say to stand on a platform that rises out of the stage was pretty sad... and, once again, I am sure that was an element that was added last minute.

It's funny, isn't - the paper airplane illusion remains one of the most memorable elements of the show!   Wonder how it would've been if Paul Kieve got his hands on it...

I saw this last night in Wimbledon.

What an amazing production!  Great visuals, stunning cast, beautifully acted and sung. No difference that I could see to the West End version. All touring productions should be like this!

It is staged completely differently with a very similar look & feel.

It'll be in the Piccadilly, Gielgud and Palace. You have to follow the band half way through the first act, again in the interval then halfway through the next act.

Make that a third. A show that I hated restaged in a venue I dislike.

This is only very slightly above Viva Forever at the bottom of the "to see" list!

I think with regards to picking names they can sell, in a way it isn't a massive issue...it all comes down how well the tour is selling.  If it sells incredibly well in advance, there may not be a need to cast the biggest name they can as either of the lead ladies (if the producers' first choice also happens to be the biggest name, obviously I would never say not to go for them) however I don't see it as an issue having someone 'unknown' to the general public in any lead role.  With strong advance sales, the tour will do just fine, even chuck in a 'name' as one of the smaller lead parts if necessary.

Just my two pennies worth :)
